I went to the launch in Glasgow last night of a new YA novel, Viking Gold, from debut author V. Campbell. It was a super evening, with a lovely and charming author, refreshments that included the old Norse drink of Mead, and several fierce looking Vikings, complete with helmets, shields and swords. The children in the audience seemed suitably impressed, especially when Ms Campbell admitted to owning a replica of a viking sword!

Viking Gold is published by small Scottish publisher, Fledgling Press, and it was lovely to see the publisher and editor taking part in the evening. I started the novel before going to bed and was immediately caught up in the story of 16 year old Redknee and the feisty Irish slave, Sinead. It is set in Scandinavia about 1000 years ago, when the Dark Ages were giving way to a different way of life. It promises to be an enthralling read. When Redknee's village is burned, he must set off on a long journey, braving many adventures to find out why a mysterious book might hold the key to his troubled past, and possibly his future.
I'm hoping to interview V. Campbell once I've read Viking Gold to find out more about the research for such a big book and fascinating story.
The print version of Viking Gold is available from all good bookshops in the UK and the e-book is available from Amazon.
